Apex Motors

is a Hong Kong and British-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer. The company was founded in 2018 and is known for its lightweight, high-performance sports cars, particularly the all-electric Apex AP-0 concept. The brand focuses on combining racing technology with sustainable luxury, catering to enthusiasts seeking a track-focused driving experience .
History
Apex Motors was established in 2018 by Hong Kong/Australian brothers Jason and Gary Leung. The company’s origins are rooted in the boutique automotive world, evolving from the Elemental RP-1, a lightweight internal combustion sports car project .
In 2019, the company launched its first production model, the AP-1. This limited-production vehicle was an open-top sports car powered by a Ford 2.3-liter engine producing 400 bhp. However, the company’s strategic vision quickly shifted toward electrification .
The company officially entered the electric vehicle arena in March 2020 with the unveiling of the Apex AP-0 concept. Originally intended to be built in England starting in 2022, the AP-0 was designed to showcase the brand’s engineering capabilities, including a full carbon-fiber chassis and Formula 1-inspired aerodynamics .
Corporate Restructuring (2023)
Despite the initial production timeline, the AP-0 faced significant delays. By March 2023, the company announced a major restructuring. The AP-0 was rebranded as the Attucks Apex AP0, and production plans shifted from the United Kingdom to Miami, Florida. This restructuring also saw the involvement of musician Wyclef Jean with the brand. Concurrently, the proposed pricing for the vehicle effectively doubled from its original 2020 estimates .
Models
Apex AP-1
The AP-1 was the company’s first production vehicle, launched in 2019. It served as the bridge between the company’s Elemental RP-1 heritage and its future electric ambitions. It was a limited-production, open-cockpit sports car designed primarily for road and track use .
Apex AP-0 / Attucks Apex AP0
The AP-0 is the brand’s flagship electric sports car concept. Unveiled in 2020, it was designed by Guy Colborne and features extreme aerodynamic styling, including a prominent central fin, gullwing doors, and a full carbon-fiber monocoque construction .
Specifications:
- Powertrain: Rear-mounted electric motor
- Power: 650 bhp (659 PS)
- Torque: 580 Nm (428 lb-ft)
- 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph): 2.3 seconds
- Top Speed: 306 km/h (190 mph)
- Range: 515 km (320 miles) WLTP
- Weight: 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs)
The vehicle distinguishes itself through a unique “feet-up” driving position similar to Formula 1 cars, push-rod suspension, and integrated LiDAR technology for Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities .
Design and Technology
Apex Motors emphasizes a philosophy of “ultra-lightweight” performance. Unlike many EVs that rely on massive battery packs, Apex focuses on carbon-fiber structures to keep weight low. The AP-0’s design includes a structural central spine that runs through the cockpit, enhancing rigidity while allowing for a low seating position .
The company integrates augmented reality (AR) features, including a holographic AR display and a virtual “race instructor” that uses gaming principles to help drivers learn racing circuits .
