Baltasar Cars is a Spanish manufacturer of battery-electric sports cars based in Barcelona. Founded in 2011, the company is known for its lightweight, track-focused hypercars, primarily the Baltasar Revolt and its evolution, the Revolt R. The company emphasizes low-volume, hand-built production combined with racing-derived engineering.

History

Baltasar Cars was founded in 2011 in Barcelona by Batasar López, a Spanish engineer, entrepreneur, and former racing driver in Formula Electric competitions. The company’s name is derived directly from its founder. For the first decade of its existence, Baltasar operated as a startup, focusing entirely on the research and development of its debut vehicle rather than immediate production.

The company remained largely under the radar for ten years until April 2021, when it officially unveiled its first model, the Baltasar Revolt. The Revolt was presented as a two-seat, fully electric roadster designed for road legality but optimized for circuit driving.

Originally, Baltasar planned to begin deliveries of the Revolt by mid-2022 at a starting price of €230,000. However, the production timeline was delayed as the company continued development and homologation. In May 2025, the company introduced the Revolt R Concept at the Automobile Barcelona show, representing an even more extreme, track-only evolution of the original car.

Models

Baltasar Revolt

The Revolt is the company’s original production vehicle. It is a compact roadster (3,950 mm long) with a minimalist design that notably lacks side windows and features a prominent roll bar. The body is constructed from a carbon fiber and laminate composite to save weight.

The Revolt utilizes two rear-mounted electric motors producing a combined 500 brake horsepower (bhp) and 1,000 Nm of torque. This allows the 770 kg (1,698 lbs) vehicle to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.5 seconds. Power is supplied by a 700-volt battery system developed in partnership with Millor Battery (another venture of Baltasar López). The company claims a WLTP range of approximately 600 km (373 miles) for street driving, though high-performance track driving reduces this to about 40 minutes.

Baltasar Revolt R

Unveiled in 2025, the Revolt R is an aggressive, track-only iteration of the original Revolt. While specific power figures were not released at launch, it is expected to carry over the powertrain from the standard Revolt. The key differentiator is its extreme aerodynamic and lightweight package.

The Revolt R features a massive active rear wing with a DRS (Drag Reduction System), a new front splitter, side skirts, and a stripped interior with a single FIA-homologated carbon seat and a removable Formula-style steering wheel. The vehicle weighs just 800 kg (1,764 lbs). It is built around a carbon fiber monocoque with a chromoly steel roll cage to meet FIA safety standards for circuit racing. The Revolt R is expected to be priced around €450,000 (~$500,000 USD).

Charging Technology

One of the most notable technical claims for the Revolt models is ultra-fast charging. Baltasar states that the 700-volt architecture allows the battery to charge from 0% to 80% capacity in just five minutes using a DC fast charger. The company plans to support this infrastructure through Enchufing, a Spanish EV charging network.

Manufacturing and Operations

Baltasar Cars operates as a boutique manufacturer. Development takes place at the company’s headquarters in Cerdanyola del Vallès, with production planned to move to a new facility in nearby Sant Cugat del Vallès.

The company has between 11 and 50 employees. Each vehicle is hand-built in Catalonia and tailored specifically to the individual buyer’s specifications, reinforcing a strategy of combining artisanal craftsmanship with high-end electric performance.
